Scars is a tiny module with a loose rules-agnostic framework and a few rollable tables for TTRPG characters to survive adversity by changing.

Scars are built to allow personal stakes to replace external injury and failure, to make characters more survivable so GMs can make scenarios more dangerous, and to encourage thoughts about permanent change and the choice or inevitability in the end of a character's story. It's condensed in to a Bookmark form-factor to fit alongside any character sheet in any system.

Scars is inspired by the scars system in Infinite Revolution by Gwendolyn Clark, was made for the 2025 ttrpg bookmark jam, is licensed under Creative Commons by attribution 4.0, and is Mosaic Strict.

i like it but im confused. when it says pick a category, what categories am i picking from and crossing out? what tables correspond?

Oh! Huh. To clarify, is this a 'how does page 2 connect to page 1' kind of problem? Since now that you mention it I could definitely make that more explicit. I'm probably putting out a version 1.1 soon so I'll try to improve that! Thanks for bringing it up.

yeah exactly im a bit lost on how to connect page 1 and 2

I'll see what I can do! The intent is that "fate, steel, heart, bone" are the four categories, each of which has a single corresponding table. It's actually pretty funny that the current version never says that outright.
